Marathons4Muireann
Local man Declan O’Flaherty is continuing his preparations for his charity run from Athlone to Dublin over the October bank holiday weekend. He will also compete in the Dublin city marathon on the same weekend. Declan is undertaking this monumental task to benefit three worthy charities: the Brothers of Charity; the Jack and Jill Foundation; and Temple Street Children’s Hospital. Declan and his wife Gina are working to raise the much needed funds under the charitable name “Marathons 4 Muireann”. Further details can be found on www.marathons4muireann.com. As part of the build-up to the main event, a local 6K/11k run/walk/crawl event has been organised for Drum on Saturday 31st August. Each participant will be asked to make a contribution of €10. It is an ideal opportunity for the community to meet up, get a bit of exercise and contribute to this worthy cause. Refreshments will be provided afterwards in Drum Hall. Stewards will be on hand on the day to provide a safe environment for the participants. Declan will be running the entire parish on the day comprising of a 50K run and there will be volunteers involved in a bucket collection along the route.

The Priests in concert
Gala concert in Ss. Peter & Paul’s Church, Athlone on Friday 20th September with guest artist, Athlone soprano Bread O’Connor.
