Ladies U14 Feile Final
St Ciarans 5-2 Clann na nGael 1-12
Clann na nGael U14 girls were narrowly defeated in Four Roads on Tuesday last by St Ciarans in the Feile Final. Clann suffered an early blow when losing midfielder Ciara Galvin to a hand injury. St Ciarans were quick to settle and with Sinead Doolan in great form were first to score registering 2 earl goals. Clann replied with a goal from Ashley-Rose Coyle and two points from Kayleigh Dunning to leave the half time score 3-2 to 1-2 in St Ciarans favour. Clann would rue the many shots at goal that landed in the grateful hands of the St Ciarans goalkeeper.
Clann started the second half at a blistering pace and attacked the St Ciarans goals for long periods scoring several points. Honor Ennis, the St Ciarans goalie was magnificent repelling these attacks and made a series of fantastic saves. Points from Orla O’Neill, Kayleigh Dunning and Rebecca Naughton reduced the lead to four points before Rachel Fitzmaurice lifted St Ciarans again with a looped effort which nestled in the far corner for St Ciaran’s. Substitute Aoife Brandon scored a goal on 18 minutes for St Ciarans to leave Clann fighting an uphill battle. Despite hitting the St Ciarans crossbar, lady luck desserted Clann and the goal that was required never came. Clann replied with points from Ruth McManus, Rebecca Naughton and Kayleigh Dunning to leave 2 points between the sides, but with St Ciarans midfielders Amy Whyte and Shauna Fitzmaurice dropping back to help in their defence, Clann were never able to catch the St Ciarans girls. The girls showed tremendous fighting qualtities in the second half and hopefully they will bounce back in the championship. The club would like to wish Ciara Galvin a speedy recovery from her injury.
