The season of Lent begins this Wednesday 17th February 2010. It is a special period of preparation for our celebration of Easter. Ash Wednesday is a day of fast and abstinence. Ashes will be distributed during all masses on Wednesday.

Trócaire Lenten Campaign
Envelopes containing Trócaire Fast Boxes are available at the back of the churches from Ash Wednesday. Every home is asked to bring one and support this worthy cause.

Last chance to buy tickets for Monster Draw
Ss. Peter & Paul’s Church Maintenance Fund monster draw with €200,000 prize fund takes place on 26th February 2010. This is the last chance to buy tickets and your support is much appreciated. Visit www.drum.ie for more details.

Public Meeting to be held in Monksland
A meeting to discuss and identify fundraising opportunities for community projects, area enhancement, playgrounds, etc. will take place on Monday 15th February at 8pm in Monksland Community Centre. All residents assocciations welcome. New residents in the area will also be welcome to come along.

Monksland Area Mass
Mass for Let will be held in Monksland Community Centre on Thursday 18th February at 9pm. Everone welcome.

Bodhran Workshop at Passionfruit Theatre
Workshop for Beginners takes place on Saturday 20th February from 2-5pm at Passionfruit Theatre. Admission free. Phone 086-3338457.

Slim-A-Thon for Lent
Organised to raise money for Ss. Peter & Paul’s Church Maintenance Fund. Have you ever considered sponsorship to help you lose weight and raise vital funds for a very worthwhile cause? Open to anyone, so encourage your friends and family to join and help raise funds. The challenge begins with a weigh-in on Monday 15th February at Sheraton Hotel at 7pm. Weigh-in will be done in confidence and you will receive a free six week pass to the fitness centre at the Sheraton Hotel. Great prizes for the winners also. Night Prayer Vigil
At Cluain Chiarain Prayer Centre, Clonmacnoise on Friday 19th February, commencing with Mass at 10pm followed by adoration, finishing at 3.10am. All welcome. Enquiries to Dave 085-7746763.

Athlone Meals on Wheels
Annual church-gate collection takes place at all churches on Saturday 20th and Sunday 25th February. Your continued support is greatly appreciated. Volunteer drivers also required for the delivery of meals. If you can spare one hour per week, please contact 090-6494393 before 12pm Monday to Friday.
